Annual Golf Day - Roseberry Grange Golf Club

Monday 30 June 2008
(Tee off between 12 noon and 2.00pm)

Individual entries are required for the above event, which will be proceeded by soup and a roll from 11.15am. A presentation of trophies and prizes will be made after the last players are back in the clubhouse. A hot meal will be served immediately on completion of the round.

All Competitors are requested to bring a raffle prize.

Full Club Handicap - Yellow Markers - Stableford Scoring.

A draw for the order of play will be made, either fourball or threeball depending on the number of entries.

Meningitis Research Foundation Presentation

Click for full size image.A presentation was made at our meeting on the 12th of March 2008 to a representative of the Meningitis Research Foundation. Mrs Maureen Carr received a cheque for the amount of £600 raised at our Charity Ladies Night held on the 26th of January 2008.

Mrs Carr thanked everyone for their hard work and generosity and gave a short and very informative talk about the role the Meningitis Research Foundation plays in combating the disease, in terms of research, awareness and providing support to the people affected by Meningitis and their families.

Charity Ladies Night

Click for full size image.Finchale Priory’s Ladies Night took place on Saturday 26th of January 2008 and had an excellent attendance of some 82 guests. After enjoying a two-course meal, toasts and speeches were made by the Worshipful Master of Finchale Priory Raymond Gowan and Jen Oliver who acted as the Masters Lady for the evening.

Bro. Eddie Arries provided Entertainment singing songs from the fifties and sixties, followed by a tribute to Elvis Presley. A quiz, raffle and a competition to see who could throw 10p the closest to a Bottle of whisky proved very successful and the total profit of the evening amounted to £600, which will be donated to the Meningitis Research Foundation.Click for full size image.

On behalf of the Worshipful Master, his family, and the Officers and Brethren of Finchale Priory Lodge we would like to extend our most heart felt thanks for the kindness and generosity of all who supported this event. We would also like to thank everybody who donated their time and effort so freely making this event not only possible, but also the great success it has proved to be.

 


Congratulations Tom!

At our meeting on the 14th November 2007 meeting W.Bro. Thomas Robson Laws received a certificate to mark his 50th year in Freemasonry. Laws’ many achievements in both Freemasonry in general and Finchale Priory Lodge in particular. As a token of appreciation from the Brethren of Finchale Priory Lodge, W.Bro. Tom was presented with an art work depicting St. Mary’s and St. Cuthbert’s Church in Chester-le-Street. Tom also accepted and Bouquet of flowers on behalf of his wife, in appreciation of her support and understanding in loaning Tom to the Sunday Nights Boy’s Lodge of instruction for so many years.Click for full size image

Annual Golf Day

Some 50 Freemasons and their friends assembled at Roseberry Grange Golf Club Tom McMahon receives the Myson Shield from the WM, click for full size image. on 18th June 2007 as part of the Lodge’s continued support of Freemasonry in the community. Thanks to generous sponsorship all competitors again received a prize and over £300 was raised for charitable purposes.

The day was blessed with fine weather and some excellent golf was played. The winner was Tom McMahon, a guest from Whitburn Golf Club with 44 points - Tom also received the Myson Shield.

The Neil Chilton Memorial Trophy was competed for by Freemasons for the 16th successive occasion. This year the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Ken Howe, had to concede the trophy to a more worthy winner, the results were:-

The booby prize was awarded to W.Bro. Carl Garden, Master of the Earl of Durham Lodge. W.Bro. Gowan presented the prizes and afterwards thanked the Steward of the Golf Club for an excellent meal. Special thanks were also afforded to the organiser of the event W.Bro. Ken Jeary.

A number of none - golfers participated in a pool competition which was won by W.Bro. Brian Tinkler, the Director of Ceremonies of Finchale Priory Lodge.
The event continues to be an attraction and will again be held in 2008 at it’s new venue of Roseberry Grange Golf Club.


Widows Social A Great Success

 

Chester-le-Street Almoners and Helpers, click for full size imageChester-le-Street Lodges held the fifth annual social for the widows of the Chester-le-Street members on Saturday 5th May. The event started at 4pm Widows enjoying thier meal, click for full size imagewith a sherry reception, followed by a two-course meal then tea or coffee. Entertainment included a singer, singing songs from the sixties and seventies.

The evening was organized by the Almoners of Finchale Priory, Earl of Durham, Lumley, Lodge of Progress, Cestria, and Eardulph Lodges and was attended by 60 Widows and thier guests. The Almoners of all six Lodges would like to thank all the brethren who volunteered their time to help make the evening a great success.
